Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band

Today, 40 years from here, The Beatle’s Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart’s Club Band album appeared. 129 days long, they worked on the “most influential” album ever made. It was the last time the Fab Four would be together in a studio..

Tonight (June, 1st) BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music digitally broadcasts a documentary on the album with covers by Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, etc.. By tomorrow, you’ll be able to watch performances from this event on-line. See http://www.bbc.co.uk for more!

My favourite album track remains ‘A Day in the Life’ of which the idea for the lyrics was, according to Mc Cartney, taken from a mad article in the Daily Mirror to result in a “poetic jumble that sounded nice” :

Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall
I’d love to turn you on

In the recording studio, on the rehearsal take, John was giving a few instructions before starting. He was singing while he was playing the accoustic guitar, and he counts in with the words Sugarplum Fairy…

So, what’s your favourite Beatles track…?
